Dispelling Email Copywriting Myths
3 things you need for emails that sell, even when you don't "give value" to your list
I stood in front of about 20 people at a workshop I hosted in Vietnam last month, with people asking so many questions that started with, “Is it true you have to…”
…Email your list newsletters every month to be able to launch and sell an offer when it’s time launch something new.
…Space out your emails so you don’t overwhelm your list, so people don’t unsubscribe.
…Insert this or that or whatever else rule someone has put into your head, which makes selling via email complicated, annoying, and ineffective.
Thing is, I just spent the last 10 months on the road in Asia, having a Great Adventure of a Lifetime, and I quit selling on social media and reverted to email-selling only.
And even though my list was only about 1200 people, I still grew my revenue by 60%.
I didn’t send out weekly newsletters (that’s never been a thing in my business).
In fact, I only emailed my list with a monthly promotion (about 4-6 emails) when I was running a Flash Sale.
Quite a few of those emails were repurposed and reused multiple times.
I just had other things to deal with!
Travel consumes you. (Especially traveling by car across Asia, exploring way offgrid, off the beaten path locations, bringing my cat along with me, camping…you get the point.)
So what do you actually need for successful email marketing, in that case?
#1 I would say it’s the copy.
Of course, you have to be able to communicate the value of your work.
It shocks me how many clients come to me with total fluff! And these are often multi-6 &7 figure business owners.
But they made their success by playing the numbers game: Constantly running ads, summits, doing hella sales calls…
Because you have to play a numbers game if you don’t have substantial sales copy.
I prefer to let my copy do the bulk of the work.
I don’t have time for all that other stuff.
#2 is consistently taking a strong stance for your values.
This builds a brand stronger than anything else I’ve seen, because marketing is about making a movement people can join.
The whole idea of “don’t risk your income because of your beliefs” is total bullshit, especially in this day in age.
Everything impacts everything.
The way you run your business obviously impacts your life, your mental health, your relationships…
…And it also affects your community and the world. That can either be intentionally and strategically, or it can be passively.
Aka, if you’re not speaking out against evil, you’re complicit in it.
But the coaches, healers, teachers and change workers of the world who really take a stance for what they believe in - get crazy results beyond audience numbers, because people are hungry for change.
Then #3 is the mystical aspect of it.
When you’re following your fire, things in your life tend to align to take care of you.
There have been seasons of my life where my business was my absolute fire.
I loved cranking out new offers,
Running launches,
Doing new masterclasses and workshops,
Sending daily emails,
Doing podcast collaborations, etc.
Obviously, you’ve got to have a solid library of content to build up a reputation and trust and all that.
Any “energetic business coach” who tells you you don’t need some form of consistent content and/or sales strategies (especially if you’re newer and haven’t established a solid base) is just selling you what you want to hear and then giving you what you actually need once you buy it.
I’m not shitting on my above list of things I was doing. They were totally working for me! I was able to take my 2-year sabbatical from writing DFY copy, and rebuild a coaching business from scratch. Within a year, I was back up to 5k months, and the second year had me tickling some 10k months.
But then my fire led me on an epic journey, and launching and selling things just hasn’t been the #1 priority anymore.
And guess what?
The monetary results still came.
Because the Universe takes care of you when you follow your fire. Because your fire is sacred.
Each one of these 3 things could go into a lot more detail. These are 3 major topics on their own. Marketing is simple, but it’s also complicated, haha. Like any industry, learn how it works from the inside, and then it’s incredibly easy and simple.
Maybe I will expand on them in future posts here, as the fire urges me.
🔥 But the fire is leading me to create the ultimate email copywriting program for y’all:
It’s been nudging me for quite some time, because nobody out there offers education on sales emails from an Energetic Copywriting lens.
I’ve tickled this topic in my courses and workshops for quite a while now,
But I haven’t unleashed the wild dogs on you with the full education yet.
I’m headed back to Europe this summer, so it’s going to be the perfect time to run this live. (I know it’s not easy for you when I’m in Asian time zones.)
Please join the waitlist here to let me know if you would join this!
I will not only teach you tips and tricks for high converting emails, I will teach you the psychology behind them, and the energy work behind them.
From a lens of activism and energy work as well as making shit tons of money from your emails.
Yay.
This will be epic.
Thanks for coming along for the ride.
